Daniel Hubbert Bronze Winner
The Nude Competition Winners
Daniel Hubbert's on-location image took third place in the single image category. "I had been working a lot in the studio, but was starting to find the space confining," he explains. "I decided to try doing some shoots on location, and worked with two longtime collaborators of mine (professional models Madame Bink and Anita de Bauch). We travelled around various locations but it was the shots in the fern shrouded woodland at the end of the day which were the most atmospheric. We did have to keep a constant lookout for people out walking their dogs!"
Daniel has always done nude work, alongside more regular portraits and specialised niche work such as actors' headshots. "Photography sits alongside my existing business as a software consultant," he says, "and finding paid commissions at a realistic rate is difficult. Actors' headshots has been a successful niche but I now want to expand into other areas. However, my personal interest will always be in realising my own concepts as fine art (or as close to that as I can manage)."
Daniel's future plans involve getting out of the studio and out of London for a while. He will shortly travel to Stockholm where he has some interesting shoots lined up. From Stockholm, he will travel around Iceland, working on location and carrying out figure work and portraiture. "I'm hoping to find some interesting people to work with as subjects and shoot them in context," he says. "The current trend for compositing everything frustrates me, so I want to show people really enmeshed in their locations; a moment that really had to have happened."
