 Nino Gehrig Wins Silver

Silver in the single image was won by Nino Gehrig. "I love doing portraits." he tells us. "All the expressions are like an open book for me.  I try to bring the essence of the person to the surface of the image. The expressions, gestures and attitudes should tell a story."

The image which won silver is from Nino's series "Lord of the Flies". He tells us more about it: "I saw the film in my childhood and was really impressed. Later I remembered the film when my daughter went on a school trip to the seaside with 40 class-mates. The kids quickly formed two competitive groups. The image which I submitted captures the moment when one boy tried to convince some of the kids to be part of his gang."  This personal project took Nino almost a year to bring together. "On the morning of the shoot, there was something like 10 kids booked and perhaps 20 parents, as well as two makeup artists and two stylists," he recalls. The story was later published in La Vanguard, a Spanish Magazine.

Let's Face It: 6 is not Nino's first LPA success and he enjoys entering our competitions. "There are a lot of very talented people in the LPA portfolio," he says. "I am proud to be a part of this association."

Nino enjoys working on personal projects like the one which gave him this winning image. "I really enjoy personal projects working with kids," he explains. "It can be chaos - with kids running about going crazy and the stylists and makeup artists trying to do their jobs - but those are my favourite moments, because I can capture such amazing, real expressions. After all, doesn't everyone like to be a kid?"

Nino is now working in moving pictures as well as stills, and is looking for a partner or collaborator.
